If I’m honest last month was a valley. More specifically I think I called it the treadmill. But get this!! Some crazy things have happened in the last few weeks. Things I could have never imagined have fallen into place. Life still ain’t perfect but man…that treadmill was worth it.
I’ve had a word stick with me this year and I can’t shake it. Abide. There’s a moment in your process that is unspeakably difficult. It’s the second where you realize IF you’re going to build something bigger than yourself, the ingredients HAVE to include something bigger than yourself.
I’d be lying if I said it’s been smooth sailing, but the most humbling part of all of this is sharing the unfinished story. My unfinished story consists of beginning a new work project that is exhilarating! Like this wasn’t on my radar at all, and God highkey just plopped it in my lap, so I’m rolling with it! I’m going to pursue this work, and do it at such a high level of excellence that it blows minds.
There’s two things I’ve learned in the last two months. 1- You don’t always have to like what you do. But at one time, it was all you had and it was enough. So until a new door opens, keep doing what you do with the same intensity that you had your first day.
2- It doesn’t matter who you know, if you know nothing. If you’ve believed the “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” quote your whole life, I’m about to wreck you. Even though networking and meeting new people is important, none of it matters if you’re not spending time building your pool of knowledge and expertise. So I guess what I’m saying is, go read a book!
If you need book suggestions, let me know.
In addition to my new work project, I wrote a new song! Since 2018 started, I’ve had writers block, but I wrote through it. As the great Macklemore once said, “The greats weren’t great cause at birth they could paint. The greats were great cause they paint a lot.”
I’m beyond excited to share this music with you guys REALLY soon!
You are GREATNESS in the making. Your passions, your skills and the weird things that you geek out are all ingredients that will lead you to accomplishing big things.
Do these three things long enough and success is just part of the equation. First is, ABIDE in where you are, whether good or bad. If you are one failure away from giving up or one late bill from throwing in the towel, abide. Second is, grow yourself; don’t sit on your hands expecting your big break to happen one day, so go read a book.
Third, share your unfinished story.
